Practical Tips
- Best Time to Visit: Spring (April-May) and Fall (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures.
- Cash is King: Cash is used everywhere in Tunisia, so it’s highly recommended to do most purchases using cash. The exception being if you wish to buy a more expensive rug or carpet from a trusted vendor. People are not allowed to bring Tunisian Dinar out of the country so you have to get cash from an ATM after landing. We do not recommend using the ATM’s at the airport for larger amounts as they charge higher fees. Just take as much as you would need to get to your accommodation.
- SIM-card & Mobile Data: The easiest and smoothest way to make sure you have reliable data when you land in Tunisia is to use an app that provides local e-sim cards. We have used Nomad and are happy with them. If you use this code you can get 5 USD discount: MIKAMGCDQV.
If you want a cheaper option, you can buy a physical sim-card when you land at Ooredo. This is cheaper, but takes a bit longer and requires you to go to a physical location with your passport.
- Transportation: Use louage (shared taxis) for intercity travel and taxis within cities (ensure meters are used).
- Etiquette: Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. Ask permission before photographing locals.
- Tipping: If you feel like you got good service, feel free to leave a tip. This ensure great recurring visits.
